Well-written, well-reasoned, and, well, interesting. The Basic Laws of Human Stupidity takes a five-part approach to defining the stupid. It's worth reading and understanding.
I liked the author's definition of stupid: anyone who causes loss to others without gain for himself. That's a perfect, objective, functional definition of stupid. It also sets up and explains the otherwise paradoxical, but very real instance of the stupid intelligent person.
