Of Interest, Dear Readers

PBS has been putting video of its Frontline broadcasts on the web for all to enjoy. "The Persuaders" has been recommended to me a number of times. I still have to watch it, but there's no reason you should wait for me.

Steve Martin wrote a very nice letter to Johnny Carson in Tuesday's New York Times. It's good to see Steve Martin be so sincere and express so clearly his respect and love for Johnny Carson. It's not often that celebrity gets dealt with in such human terms.

I'm not doing my job if I'm not finding new tools for you to play with on the web. Several have been on dancing around my plate for months, asking to be written up. Not to preclude a full write-up, but to prevent further delay, I recommend Flickr, LinkedIn and Furl. Excellent, excellent, excellent.

Flickr is the smartest online photo sharing tool I've seen yet. It's organized, it's easy, and it's social, if you can believe it. Browse other people's tags (Tempe, Frisbee, whatever) -- it's awesome.

LinkedIn is a social networking service (messed with friendster at all?) but it's professionally focused, and it just works.

Lastly, Furl is sort of a bookmark manager and content clipper. I use it to quickly grab articles that I read online. It saves a link and the full text and allows me to add my own keywords and title. Later, I can find the article again by searching my Furl archive or browsing through the categories. Even if the article gets pulled off the web, I have a copy in my archive. Brilliant!

Try them out -- they all work. And they rock.
