I was helping a friend out in my program by serving as her inter-rater reliability for her thesis measures to assure that she scored the measures in a fair manner. I scored 20 surveys given to teachers attending a seminar. Of these 20 teachers, three of them spelled the word "chronically," as in chronically ill children, "cronically." Two others spelled the word "knowledgeable," as "knowledgable." And to top things off, one wrote that she had been teaching for 24 years and checked the age box of "25-39". She must have got an early start.
Good grief!
Brian noted that all the consultants he has bumped into recently like to talk in threes. Three reasons, three people, three events... three, three, three. Here are three things I found to read this weekend.
- Rock's Oldest Joke: Yelling 'Freebird!' In a Crowded Theater: A writer for the WSJ tracked down the origin of a curious piece of rock culture and it got printed on page one. I like it.
- Who Will Free Fiona Apple?: A great article at the SF Gate that talks about a unique situation with a Fiona Apple album that has been recorded but not released by her label. Apparently her fans have been waiting with anticipation for its release, but the label isn't doing anything about it. Recently fans have been downloading bootlegs from the web. I don't care much one way or the other for Fiona Apple, but the article offers another update on the bizarre business of music.
- Tips for Mastering E-mail Overload: It spoke to me. I remember writing a list of basic e-mail etiquette points for the AKPsiers at one point. That was a different audience in a different age. This is the advanced course for the overburdened.
